ETC// Duster
This is Duster a rescue from our local animal shelter. I saw his photo online and fell in love with him
Buster who was his Dad and Duster were owner surrendered to the shelter. When I went to visit
Buster the dad was rescue only due to his barking and growling and they did not feel that he
could be adopted out. Duster was considered very sweet but didnot like small kids. I picked
him up and he just cuddled on my shoulder and was so sweet and loving. I adopted him and
he came home to join the other furbabies. It seems that Duster was a very smart little doggie
knowing how to act to get out of the shelter. I love him and would not give him up for
anything BUT now that he is home he barks and growls at just about everyone and everything
the same behavior that made his Dad rescue only. DONOT let anyone tell you that dogs
are not smart. Duster is a character.
Thanks for letting me share my tale of 2 doggies.
God Bless

Veterans Day
This is a day for all of us to take time to Thank our Veterans for their service to our country.
It has cost them alot in so many ways.
On this Veterans Day I wanted to share our visit to the National Museum of the Marine
Corps in Quantico, Virginia. My husband served in the Marine Corp during the Vietnam
War.
The museum was dedicated Nove 10, 2006 on the 231st birthday of the Marine Corp

ETC: My Mama
I am blessed to still have my Mama with me. She will soon be 92 years old and is still
able to live in Assisted Living. The circle of life continues as she is getting more feeble
everyday and her mental clarity is declining..
She has been my friend as well as my Mama. She use to go with me on trips and we
use to walk and do so many things. She was my confident and the one I could blow off
steam with. I miss the ability to really be able to talk to her. The conversation is now
mostly answering the same questions over and over again each time you visit. But you
know that is ok and I am thankful she has the ability to ask even though she may not
remember the answer. As I age my memory is declining also and sometimes I am told
I ask the same thing over and over again. We will all reach, God willing, this season of
our lives. Enjoy and cherish your Mama cause you will never have anyone to love
and care for you like they do. Thanks for letting me write about my Mama feeling a
little sad as I watch her decline physically and mentally but still so very thankful.

Getting a tattoo
I got a small tattoo. I am a senior citizen, grandmother and a great-grandmother and I
just got my first and only tattoo. I will share some funny pictures of me while getting
the tattoo but it was a serious reason as to why I got it. Almost everyone knows of
someone either a family member or friends who has or is battling depression and
other mental diseases. Regretfully this sometimes leads to harmful behaviors or thoughts
of suicide. I came upon this web site while dealing with this within my family. The
website is "Project Semi-Colon". It is to let these friends ,family members or whoever
we come in contact with that we are here for them and that their life is not over. There
is hope and their is help for them. We all can help by being there and taking their
cries for help seriously don't just shake it off. There is alot of information and resources
available.www.projectsemicolon.com
Now the tattoo and the very funny but true photos of this lady getting her first and
only tattoo.

Mystic Connecticut
A breath of fresh are between Boston and New York. A lovely seaside town along
the Mystic River. The historic town of Mystic is built around and near a drawbridge.
Mystic Pizza was our first stop to get some great pizza. This was the filming location
of Julia Roberts movie "Mystic Pizza". The main street had lots of great shops and
food. This may sound strange but it also a beautiful cemetery with many
beautiful trees and water.

June Trip
I am sorry it has taken me awhile to tell you about my June trip with my daughter.
It was a very good trip in all ways except maybe for the traffic. This old southern
lady's nerve were shot. My daughter does good. The toll roads are expensive we
could have got a tank of gas with what we had to pay in tolls. The weather
was very good not to hot and not to cold. We saw a lot in the five days we
were on the road and put quite a few miles on my daughters car. We get
to mark off the following states. Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
We only have three states left to visit and we will have visited every East Coast
State. The last three to visit are Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire. Our first stop
was Mystic, Connecticut. So check back for details about this lovely town.

June
This has been a busy and fast month with lots of personal life things going on. BUT we
did manage a day trip to the beach. Two of my daughters and one of my grandsons. We
are only about 3 hours from the coast so not along drive.I use to do it many years
ago when I was a teenager and we didn't have the interstate highway. I love sitting
and watching and listening to the ocean but quit actually going in the water a long
time ago. At this time there has been some unusual shark attacks two young people
have been bitten and lost their left arms.I think a lot of people are staying out as there
have been quite a few sightings in shallow water. I think it is just a sign as to how bad
our eco system is out of balance. We did have a good day with no bad things happening.
My two girls had a fun time in the water even though it was rough. My grandson and I
sat and watched them.
My favorite time for the beach is in the fall and spring time when it is not so hot and
crowded. A day at the beach in summer is very rare for me.

Catch up for May
The first annual Balloon Festival was held in our area Memorial Day weekend and it
was a great success. It experienced some problems due to the unexpected turnout. It
was a free event except for parking and food. We were able to attend two days of
the weekend and enjoyed it so much. It was a beautiful sight to see all the colorful
balloons getting ready and going up in the air.
It was held Memorial Day weekend so they had a Field of Remembrance that you could place
a flag for someone you lost or who had served in the military.
It was a great weekend.
Until our next adventure God Bless and Take Care

Local Travel AvaGardner Museum
The Ava Gardner museum is located in Smithfield NC. This is another local museum
that has been ignored by me for years. It far exceeded my expectations. It honors the
life, the loves and the legacy of a small town farmers daughter who became a leading
lady in Hollywood and an international star. The museum contains memorabilia from her life,
clothes jewelry and movie costumes. The museum contains portraits of Ava
completed by Bert Pfeiffer who did a portrait of her yearly for many years. She spent the
last years of her life in Spain and England. Ava died January 25 1990 from pneumonia.
She was buried in Smithfield NC beside her parents. The photos I am sharing show
some of the excellent exhibits they have, the portraits done by her admirer and her
gravesite. I hope you enjoy the little bit of information I have shared.

Local Travel Places
We have passed the sign for "The Country Doctor Museum" for years. We finally
decided to visit it and was very surprised as to how great a museum it is. The location
is Bailey NC. The museum was donated to East Carolina University in 2003 and is the
oldest museum in the United States dedicated to America's rural health care. The artifacts
cover the time period starting in the late 18th century to the first half of the 20th century.
The museum was started in 1967 by a group who wanted to preserve this part of history.
The museum consist of the Freeman-Brantley building which is two actual Doctors
offices that where relocated to site. It contains many artifacts of the practice of medicine
including leeches. The Carriage House contains forms of transportation that was used by
the Doctors to make house calls.

Travel Local
My traveling partner who is also my daughter and I are checking out some of the local
places to visit on the weekend. It is strange that you live somewhere almost all your
life and have never checked out local places.
We start out with our small town which we discovered has a museum. It is still in
infancy but growing. The Youngsville Womens club started it in 2007 by purchasing
the oldest church building in town to preserve it and to make it into a museum to
house the history of Youngsville and the surrounding community.
The Youngsville Christian Church was first organized in 1886 and it is still a lovely
building and I am so grateful that it is being taken care of. There is still a lot of work
to be done on the church to bring it up to date so that the museum can expand and be able
to take in more artifacts The articles they have now are great and it is a pleasure to
look at them and learn of the history of our town. Did you know that it was
originally called Pacific in 1848 when the first post office was established? It was
incorporated in 1875 as the town of Youngsville. History is great and I am glad that
our hometown has a museum.
To help finance the work on the museum
they have on sale notecards and a small
print of the Church by Brenda King .
Check out your local places and see what
treasures you can find.
We have a local trip planned for next weekend
so check back and see what we discover
Until next time Thanks for reading and sharing.
